Biography of a Master of the Imagination.

James Mapes is an award-winning stage hypnotist, hypnotherapist, excellence coach, motivational business speaker, actor and best-selling author.

As a stage hypnotist, he is recognized for his ability to inspire, motivate and educate through fun and laughter while always treating his participants and audience with dignity and respect, enhancing their unlimited potential and incalculable powers of the mind. He has ignited Broadway audiences with his critically acclaimed, entertaining, fun and enlightening hypnosis show, “Journey into the Imagination.” His performances have never failed to captivate his audience and win praise from the media, including the New York Times, Variety and the New York Daily News. Mapes has presented his stage show more than 2000 times for corporate functions, in theatres and performing arts centers around the world. He was the first recipient of the prestigious “Campus Entertainer of the Year” Award and the only stage hypnotist to perform in a large venue on Broadway as well as Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in Manhattan.

For more than 30 years, he has been a pioneer in the field of hypnosis, applying his skills to entertain and educate the public about the powerful science of the subconscious mind.

Certified as a clinical hypnotist by the National Guild of Hypnotists and the American Board of Hypnotherapy, James Mapes was the founder of the New York Hypnosis Center and the director for 12 years. He has worked with clients on weight reduction, smoking cessation and the elimination of phobias. He has coached athletes to improve their performance and worked with patients preparing for surgery. He is a skilled practitioner of “age regression,” helping the New York City Police Department in “memory recovery” for witnesses to and victims of crime.

James Mapes earned his Master of Arts degree in Theatre from California State University/Northridge. Beyond his one-man show, he has appeared in over 100 theatrical productions, television shows and feature films including One Life to Live, The Guiding Light, All my Children, Taxi Driver, Three Days of the Condor, Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country, Star Trek: First Contact, Do You Wanna Know a Secret?, Conversations with God & The Wicker Tree. Always wanting to satisfy his curiosity and push the limits of the mind, Mapes wrote, hosted and executive produced a reality television show on past-life regression, Through the Portal.
